Slot Panic: slot car racing with a single control
Two cars locked into their lanes and a single control, the trigger: press to accelerate, release to slow down. Take a bend too fast and the tail slides out; keep pushing and the car flies off, spins across the table and a hand puts it back on the track. Free, no sign-up, in the browser or installed as an app.
How to play
- Hold to accelerate and release to slow down. Tap it and the power stays halfway.
- Past the grip limit the car slides and loses speed; it only flies off if you keep pushing.
- Flying off costs time, not the race: the hand puts the car back where it left the track.
- Three, five or ten laps: sprint, normal or endurance race. The cars swap lanes every race; at a crossover or a crossing, if they arrive together, they crash.
- On a phone held upright, magnifier mode: the track zoomed in around your car and the circuit map on top, against the CPU.
- Thirteen cars to pick on the title screen, from a tin snail to a people carrier: they change the shape, not the race.
- Draw your own circuit with your finger on a grid: try it against the CPU, save it and share the link.
- Championship: the six circuits in a row. Whoever wins the most races takes it; on a tie, the lowest total time.
- Gallery: publish your circuits with a three-letter alias and race everyone else’s, the newest or the most played.
- Lap records on the six official circuits: sign yours with three letters and race against your ghost or the record holder’s.
Controls
| Car | Keyboard | Touch |
|---|---|---|
| P1 (red) | W A ⇧ ␣ | left half |
| P2 (blue) | ↑ L ⇧ 0 | right half |
On the title screen: Enter starts, C changes the track, E the scenery, H the time of day, V the laps, D the CPU level, L the language and M mutes. While racing, R restarts and Esc goes back to the menu. Any lane nobody touches is driven by the CPU.
Tracks
- THE HAIRPIN — two fast bends and a finger with a tight hairpin.
- THE FIGURE EIGHT — a figure eight with a crossing, a banked hairpin, a chicane and two drift bends.
- THE KNOT — a crossover where the cars swap lanes, a bumpy straight, a hairpin and a chicane.
- THE SKID — two narrow sections where the lanes squeeze together (side by side, the cars touch) and a skid bend you take sliding.
- THE BATHTUB — the longest home straight, two banked bends, a crossover on the bottom straight and, down in the dip, a chicane where the lanes squeeze together and jink sideways between straw bales.
- THE DIAGONAL — a crooked figure eight whose diagonal runs under a bridge, a bumpy dip, a banked bend, a narrow loop with a narrow section and a drift bend.
